This year, in the southern California area, Chilean Independence festivities will begin Friday night the 16th of September with 3 different night time events, (one of Friday night and 2 separate ones on Saturday night). There will be two daytime park events one in Fullerton, the Chilean Fest 2016 (pre-paid event) and one in the Van Nuys (free public event). On the actual 18th, the only announced celebration will be at the restaurant, El Rincon Chileno. All events are individually listed below, by date order starting on Friday – without any type of preferential order. There is a total of 5 event posters listed below and since El Rincon Chileno has 2 consecutive days of celebration – culminating on the 18th, their information has been placed at the end.
Friday, September 16th event is “El Karrete – 100% Chileno 2016” at the upscale Seventy7 North Lounge – 12514 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, California 91604. Seventy7 North Lounge is a swank bar and restaurant with very nice reviews. Starts at 9:30pm and there is NO Cover charge !!! For more info please call (818)304-4065 or Niko (818)233- 7009. Music will be played by DJ Pato and DJ Niko: musica chilena bailable, and of course a “pies de cueca” and typical Chilean dance-cumbia grooves and hits along with $5 Piscolas. Doors open at 9:30pm till 2am. It is a 21 and over event.
This year’s “Orange County Chilean Fest 2016 Fiestas Patrias Chilenas” is a PRE-PAID event hosted Chile America Sur de California, and will be held on Saturday, September 17, from noon to 8pm at Ted Craig Regional Park, 3300 S State College Blvd in Fullerton, California 92835. Pre-paid ticket price per person $22.00 ($2 is a service charge). Please link here to purchase tickets and info in Spanish. Your entrance ticket includes one “plato unico”, which includes an empanada, a varios meats, chicken, salad and fruit and LAN raffle ticket. Since Ted Craig Regional Park does not allow any monetary transactions on site, there will be no food/product stalls. Parking: Ted Craig Regional Park has a $5.00 entrance fee – per car, which pays for the park’s upkeep – but if you park on the street, you can walk in.
Event highlights are: Live musical performances Ivan Marcelo, comedy by Marcos Vasquez and entertainment by el Payasito Tepepe ex Aguilas Humanas and dance performance by el Grupo Folklorico Chile America plus live DJ by DJ Lucho. Present as well, will be the Cónsul General de Chile. The entrance ticket includes contests, games and LAN airline ticket raffle. It is a picnic, so bring your chairs and canopies. On Saturday 17th, will be a Picnic Patriota at Woodley Park 6100 Woodley Avenue in Van Nuys on the side of the entrance of the Japanese Garden from 12 pm onward to celebrate the Fiestas Patrias Chilensis. The event is free and open to all, since it is at the park. There is no formal organizing committee or organization attached to event, it is simply a patriotic call to all Chilenos to come and share in a family picnic – just like in the old days. It is recommended that you bring your chairs, tables, canopies, food and drink.
There is a chance of hiring a jumper for the kids, and for those whose kids will play, the cost can be split between all interested parties to cover the jumper cost.
Saturday, September 17th, La Diosa Night Club at Giggles hosts Independencia de Mexico y Chile from 9:30pm to 3am. Giggles is at 215 North Brand Blvd, Glendale, 91203. A Chilean restaurant that has been in Los Angeles since the late 1960′s, El Rincon Chileno will hosts its annual patriotic days’ celebrations “Celebre el 18 de Septiembre en el Rincon Chileno“, in a sit-down restaurant setting (reservations are strongly recommended). This year the celebrations will held only on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday Sept 17 – Dinner Celebration with a presentation of the Chilean National Hymn and traditional Chilean Folklore and Dances with musica bailable played by DJ. Starts from 8pm till 2am.
Sunday Sept 18 – From 2pm till 8pm, the celebrations continues with cuecas and musica bailable and menu abrieto (open menu).
